Broward County Welcomes New Members to the Cultural Council

The Broward Cultural Councilwelcomes four new members to its board: Heather Brinkworth -appointed by the School Board of Broward County, FL; Ebonni Bryant, appointed by Broward County Commissioner Kristin Jacobs;Caryl Fantel, appointed by Broward County Commissioner Stacy Ritter; and Town of Davie Vice Mayor Caryl Hattan, appointed by the Broward League of Cities.

The Broward Cultural Council (BCC), created in 1977, is an advisory board to the Broward County Commission. The Council is dedicated to enhancing the cultural environment through the development of the arts. As the central coordinating agency for the arts, BCC serves as liaison between cultural organizations, government agencies and the private sector. The 24-member Council recommends programs and the distribution of government and private resources for the visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, museums and festivals and the Broward County Public Art & Design Program.

Born and raised in Broward County, Heather Brinkworth has lived in District 3 since 1982. She is a 3rd generation Broward County resident and a proud alumna of the County's school system. As a student, Brinkworth attended Lauderhill Paul Turner Elementary, Bethune Elementary, Rogers Middle School, Hollywood Hills High School and Stranahan High School, and then went on to teach at many of the very same schools. With deep roots in the community she is honored to have been appointed to the School Board of Broward County representing the students, staff and school communities of District 3.

Caryl Hattan grew up in New York and holds an Associate's Degree from Suffolk County Community College, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Stony Brook University. For 34 years, she has been an educator in South Florida and has taught, elementary through high school level students; she currently holds the position of Curriculum Facilitator of Grades K-12, at Whispering Pines School in Miramar. Hattan was elected to the Town Council in March of 2010; and in the same year, she was inducted into the Broward County Women's Hall of Fame for her efforts towards empowering women to serve in public service.

Ebonni Bryant's mission is to radically move people and ideas in ways that change how people see themselves, their institutions and communities. She believes in working in the individual communities that we each hold dear and also, in expanding into communities beyond, sharing ideas and business initiatives. "Her company, The Idea, Inc., is more than a business development company", says Bryant. "It is a support system, a safety net that allows you to pursue your dreams."

Caryl Ginsburg Fantel is a music director, pianist, private music instructor and audition coach. She is familiar to audiences throughout South Florida, having lived here for 18 years and performed at most of the professional theatres and large performing arts venues in the region, often alongside her husband, drummer Roy Fantel. She leads professional a cappella singing groups and a senior adult choir, and does the music direction for South Florida's annual Carbonell Awards.
