Knitting Factory Brooklyn outdid itself this year for Cinco de Mayo, bringing you some amazing world- and Latin-influenced Salsa and bilingual indie bands from the Tri-State area. Keeping with tradition, the fiesta aims to bring communities together as they celebrate the rich culture, heritage, and history. The unique sound of these musical groups using a variety of musical instruments along with the vocal harmony of singers will showcase the heart and soul of Mexican and Latin cultures alike.
Highlighting the event will be two headlining sets from Grupo Arcano, Salsa from the Brooklyn side of the East River. "A Salsa band that brings the best from a rich tradition, as well as the hottest trends in salsa music", says the New York based band. Grupo Arcano plays classic hits as well as explosive original compositions. The band mates draw from a range of musical backgrounds including jazz, soul, merengue, funk, and classical; influenced by Salsa greats such as El Gran Combo and Spanish Harlem Orchestra.
Maquina Mono is a seven-piece Latin rock band from NYC. They have toured extensively and opened for The Sugarhill Gang's spinoff group Rapper's Delight.
Rounding out the night will include The Peeps, a four piece Salsa-Punk band from New York, La Paracuta, a bilingual indie rock alternative band and singer/songwriter Cupero.
Knitting Factory will spin Latin, Salsa and Pop/Rock music between sets and for enjoyment in the front bar.
As part of the tradition of Cinco De Mayo, Knitting Factory will be offering the following drink specials: $5 Margaritas, $7 Premium Margaritas, $4 Tequila Shots, $4 Dos Equis, $6 Dos Equis + Tequila Shot, $5 for three empanadas from "The Empanada Guy"
