Brooklyn Recreation and World Cares Center Host Iron Skillet Cook Off Jr. 3/31

On Wednesday, March 31, 2010, Brooklyn Recreation's Afterschool Program and the World Cares Center come together to bring you the Iron Skillet Cook Off Jr., a culinary competition in which members of New York's Bravest will team up with Parks' Afterschool participants to test their skills in the kitchen. The event will take place at New York City College of Technology from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Brooklyn Recreation's Afterschool program has had a culinary component since 1999, which in the past has included cookie, cupcake and pie competitions. The Parks Afterschool Program seeks to enhance communities and enrich the lives of children in the City of New York by providing safe, supportive, and structured environments that support overall health and well-being. Parks Afterschool offers quality educational, recreational, and cultural programs that promote the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional development of children and youth.

Iron Skillet Cook Off Jr. is modeled after the World Cares Center's Iron Skillet Cook Off, which has been held every fall since 2002. The senior event has become New York City's most sought after culinary competition, where five New York City firefighters and five of New York City's top celebrity chefs match their talents in a fiery contest for top honors.
