World renowned beatboxer Chesney Snow will present The Unwritten Law - his harrowing journey from a legacy of incarceration to fatherhood, homelessness to Harvard, to ultimately starring on Broadway in the musical In Transit. Brilliantly blending powerful prose, contemporary dance, live music and visual design, The Unwritten Law adeptly weaves together a truly inspiring American story of redemption and resilience in an unforgettable evening of theater. The play will run for a limited time through September 29th for eight performances at 7:30pm.
Featuring original music composed by A.J. Khaw, Varuni Tiruchelvam, Laura Dadap and Chesney Snow, lighting design by Ro-z Edelston, and projection design by Joanna Sobieski, The Unwritten Law is performed by Chesney Snow, Rebecca Arends, Maleek Washington, A.J. Khaw and Laura Dadap. Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Seán Curran joined the creative team for this fall production of The Unwritten Law at Dixon Place, where the show received a workshop production in August 2017.
Chesney Snow is a Drama Desk award-winning Brooklyn based theatre artist and songwriter who recently originated the role of Boxman on Broadway in In Transit. He was a lyricist and composer for Regina Taylor's Crowns at Princeton's McCarter Theatre and The Long Wharf Theatre. Considered a pioneering figure in American beatbox culture he founded the American Beatbox Championships and executive produced the documentary American Beatboxer which was placed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Harvard University Hip Hop archives. He twice headlined Carnegie Hall with DCINY and has collaborated on stage as a beatboxer with many legendary artists including KRS One, Zap Mama, and Nile Rodgers. He has opened for artists such as MC Lyte, Snoop Dogg, and Immortal Technique. He is a member of the a cappella group reVoiced touring internationally with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
