Just weeks before it ends its exciting 2011-12 relaunch season, the Brooklyn Philharmonic presents a faily-tale themed Gala entitled "Musically Ever After" on Thursday, May 24, at 6:00PM at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The evening will honor notable personalities in the worlds of music, culture, and philanthropy, with a schedule that includes a cocktail reception from 6:00PM-7:00PM, a seated dinner and main event from 7:00PM-9:30PM, and the first ever after-party, sponsored by The L Magazine, from 9:30PM-11:30PM.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Alan Pierson and CEO Richard Dare, the Brooklyn Phil's reinvention for the 2011-12 season has been hailed by critics such as Alex Ross as "remarkably innovative, perhaps even revolutionary." As the Philharmonic gets down and dirty in Brooklyn's diverse neighborhoods, "We will become 'Brooklyn's orchestra' like never before," in the words of Pierson.
While paying homage to the artistic and popular success of the reboot season, the Annual Gala plays an essential role in helping the Brooklyn Phil continue to present exceptionally creative concert and education programming within the Brooklyn community. Education programs in 2011-12 include family workshops in cartooning and music making, shape note singing, hip-hop and spoken word poetry, as well as chamber concerts at the Brooklyn Museum and with literary artists Phillip Lopate, Sergei Dovlatov, and Tyehimba Jess.
