Brooklyn Hosts OpSail Celebration at Red Hook Marine Terminal, Now thru 5/28

From today, May 26 through Monday, May 28, four tall ships, four foreign navy vessels and two US Coast Guard cutters will be open for public visits at the Red Hook Marine Terminal in Brooklyn as part of the OpSail celebration in New York City. The weeklong citywide OpSail event kicks off at 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, with the Majestic Parade of Ships—17 tall ships and 10 US Navy and foreign military ships—sailing beneath the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
“Brooklyn and Brooklyn Tourism are excited to be ‘all hands on deck’ as we welcome OpSail and the four tall ships, four foreign navy vessels and two US Coast Guard cutters that will be calling the Red Hook Marine Terminal their home berth over the Memorial Day holiday,” said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. “This is a rare, free opportunity for Brooklynites and visitors alike to see these vessels up close and personal, with ships from nations as diverse as Brooklyn itself—Spain, Mexico, France, Japan, Canada, Finland, the United Kingdom and the United States. And I can’t think of a better way to pay tribute to a maritime industry that has anchored Brooklyn’s waterfront economy and kept it afloat since its earliest days than to welcome these majestic ships to the borough that is home to everyone from everywhere—whether on land or at sea.”
