Written by Maya Cantu Continental Airlines will present the latest edition of the outdoor concert series Broadway's Stars in the Alley. The free concert will occur on Wednesday, June 1st at 11 AM in Shubert Alley.
The participating stars have not yet been announced, but a press release states that most current Broadway shows will be involved.
Broadway's Stars in the Alley is a theatrical block party of sorts--an end-of-the-season celebration that draws up to 3,000 theatre fans and leads up to the Tony Awards on Sunday, June 5th. This year, too, will see the Star Award given to a prominent public or government personality who has displayed strong support for the Broadway theatre community.
Broadway's Stars in the Alley is put on each year by a variety of groups. In addition to its presentation by Continental Airlines ("the Official Airline of Live Broadway"), the concert is produced by the League of American Theatres and Producers, "the national trade organization for the Broadway industry." Sprint and The New York Times are sponsors, and additional support for the series is provided by the New York Marriot Marquis hotel and Broadway Previews.
The League of American Theatres and Producers comprises over 500 members who work in many theatrical capacities. Among them are theatre owners, operators, producers and presenters of Broadway productions in New York and 140 other cities throughout the US and Canada.
Shubert Alley is located west of Broadway between 44th and 45th Streets.
