One of New York City's hottest young stars, Matt Doyle will make the journey from the Big Apple to the Emerald City to star in Jasper in Deadland, a role he originated Off-Off-Broadway in 2014.
An electrifying new pop/rock musical in the spirit of RENT and Spring Awakening, Jasper in Deadland takes audiences at The 5th Avenue Theatre on a mythological thrill-ride through the underworld. Directed by Brandon Ivie, this high-octane musical boasts a book by Ryan Scott Oliver and Hunter Foster and music and lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver and is undergoing extensive development since its previous incarnation at New York's West End Theater.
As teenage Jasper faces gods and monsters in search of his best friend (and true love) Agnes, he learns to let go of the demons of daily life and embrace the music within. With a pulsating contemporary score and vibrant roots in ancient Greek, Egyptian, Roman and Norse legends and fables, this spine-tingling, hair-raising, heart-stirring show explores what it means to be truly alive.
Jasper in Deadland plays now through May 24, 2015 (press opening tonight, May 14) at The 5th Avenue Theatre (1308 5th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101). Tickets (starting at $29) may be purchased online at www.5thavenue.org, by phone at 206-625-1900, or at the Box Office at 1308 5th Avenue in Downtown Seattle.
Matt Doyle firmly established himself as one of Broadway's phenomenal young talents when he originated the role of Billy Narcott in the Broadway production of War Horse, but has been rocking the stage since 2007 when Spring Awakening took the world by storm (he first covered Melchior and then in 2008 took over as Hanschen). He went on to play Melchior for a two-year run in Toronto. The Toronto Star raved about his performance, saying "Matt Doyle as the straight-arrow Melchior gave one of the most dynamic performances of the night, with passion quivering from every part of his body, as well as a face and voice that laid every emotion right on the line." Doyle, who has also played a recurring role on the hit show Gossip Girl and recorded two albums, took over the role of Elder Price in the Broadway smash The Book of Mormon for a year before taking on Jasper in 2014.
