Broadway Basics is recruiting Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors, as well as Undergrads, Grad students and recent grads for their Stage Management Workshop- a one day intensive on Monday, October 12, 2015 from 10am-3pm for an in-depth day with two Professional Broadway Stage Managers. Upon attending the workshop, students will learn first-hand about what it takes on put on a Broadway show from pre-production through strike, networking and resume writing, and more! Marybeth Abel (Production Stage Manager) has been professionally and successfully employed for 30 years. Highlights of her Broadway career include Wicked, Cyrano De Bergerac, Sweet Charity, La Cage Aux Folles, Sly Fox, Fosse, Five Guys Named Moe. She held the role of Production Supervisor for 12 years of all North American companies, including the original Broadway Company, of Les Miserables. In addition to her theatrical credits she has produced and stage managed several major live concert and benefit events. She holds an adjunct professorship in the Theatre Arts division at Columbia University- Graduate Stage Management Program, where she shares her passion for helping to develop and guide the next generation of working, thinking and judicious Stage Managers.
Christy Ney (Stage Manager) Christy's love of the arts began with her first dance class at age 3 ½. After a childhood filled with music and dance, she decided to pursue a career backstage as opposed to onstage. She has been privileged to have spent the past 15 years working as a professional Stage Manager. Currently, she is an Assistant Stage Manager on Broadway's Wicked. Other credits include: (Broadway) Marie Christine, Side Man. (National Tour) The Lion King. (Off-Broadway) The World Over, Falsettos, and Floyd Collins. (Regional) 3 seasons at Paper Mill Playhouse and productions for the New Jersey State Opera and New Jersey Ballet. She has been a member of the teaching faculty for the New York Film Academy's Musical Theatre Conservatory Program for the past 3 years and gets great joy out of teaching and tutoring theatre students. In addition, she lectures and teaches workshops on technical theatre and Stage Management for many theatres, colleges and universities.
