The producers of Coram Boy have announced "The Under 18 Project" - a new half-priced ticket initiative aimed at drawing young adults to the live theater experience while cultivating new Broadway audiences.
Coram Boy, directed by Melly Still and adapted by Helen Edmundson from the 2000 Whitbred Young Adult Award winning novel by Jamila Gavin, invites all theatergoers ages 12-18 to attend the Broadway production at half price ($51.25) with the purchase of one full-priced ticket (reg. $101.25). Previews begin April 16th for an official opening on May 2nd, 2007 at Broadway's Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street).
A similar program was launched in London two years ago with great success by The National Theatre of Great Britain, where Coram Boy initially played two sold out engagements prior to transferring to Broadway. The producers of the Broadway production hope "The Under 18 Project" will develop new American audiences and introduce young adults to the magic of theatre just as the UK program was successful in doing.
Coram Boy is an epic adventure set in 18th-century England featuring 40 performers onstage along with seven musicians. Winner of the 2006 Time Out Best Play Award, the play "tells the tale of two orphans at the Coram Hospital for Deserted Children: Toby, saved from an African slave ship and Aaron, the abandoned son of the heir to a great estate. A story of fathers and sons, set in the dark heart of 18th-century England, Coram Boy is filled with danger and excitement," state press notes.
"The Under 18 Project" tickets are available for every performance and can be purchased by visiting www.broadwayoffers.com or calling (212) 947-8824 with the code CBFAMPK. Some restrictions apply, please ask for details.
