This August, CHICAGO will welcome two of its top leading ladies back to the cell block.
BroadwayWorld has confirmed that both Carly Hughes and Amy Spanger will return to the Ambassador Theatre for limited engagements in Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse's record-breaking musical.
Beginning Tuesday, August 4, Spanger will reprise her role as 'Roxie Hart' for two weeks only, departing August 16. From Saturday, August 22, through Friday, September 4, Hughes will step in for Amra Faye Wright, taking on the role of 'Velma Kelly' for 16 performances. Wright will then return.
CHICAGO currently stars Wright, Grammy winner Brandy as Roxie, Ivan Hernandez as Billy Flynn, Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Matron "Mama" Morton.
Per press notes, "Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids."
