Thanksgiving might be over, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything left to be thankful for this year! Earlier this week, BroadwayWorld brought you entries from over 60 of Broadway's biggest stars on what they are counting their blessings for (CLICK HERE to check out the full list), but now we turn the tables and share with you the reasons why we are thankful this holiday season.
It's Broadway's long-running shows that keep Times Square bustling year-round with theatre-goers from around the world who are making it to the Great White Way for their first time. Newsies is currently in its second year at the Nederlander Theatre, having played almost 700 performances.
About the Show: Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged 'newsies,' who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies Newsies from across the city to strike for what's right. Newsies is inspired by the real-life 'Newsboy Strike of 1899,' when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway Newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers.
Curret Cast: Corey Cott as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, LaVon Fisher-Wilson as Medda Larkin, Ben Fankhauser as Davey, Andy Richardson as Crutchie, and Nicholas Lampiasi and Joshua Colley alternating the role of Les.
Signature Songs: "Seize the Day," "Carrying the Banner," "King of New York," and "Santa Fe"
