Broadway to Dim Lights Tonight at 8pm in Honor of Horton Foote

The Broadway League mourns the loss of Horton Foote, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright most recently represented on Broadway this season with Dividing The Estate. He passed away yesterday at age 92 at his home in Connecticut.

Broadway marquees will be dimmed on Thursday, February 5th for one minute at exactly 8:00pm in tribute to Mr. Foote.

"Horton Foote was a prolific contributor to Broadway and we are deeply saddened by the loss of this great artist," said Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of The Broadway League. "As a fellow native Texan, I especially enjoyed his plays that reflected the stories of his past. Our thoughts are with his family."

Mr. Foote's Broadway plays include Only the Heart, Six O'Clock Theatre, The Chase, Two's Company, The Trip to Bountiful, The Traveling Lady, The Young Man From Atlanta and Dividing The Estate. Mr. Foote won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for The Young Man from Atlanta in 1995, for which he also received a Tony Award nomination. In 2006 he received a Drama Desk Award for Career Achievement. Mr. Foote also won two Academy Awards for his screenplays "Tender Mercies" in 1983 and "To Kill a Mockingbird" in 1962. He received an Oscar nomination for the screenplay "The Trip to Bountiful" in 1985.
