The Tony Award is Broadway's mark of excellence - and the Best Musical Tony is a highly sought prize. Often the winner is obvious to those in the know, but SOMETIMES there is a fight to the finish. With that in mind TONY BATTLES honors those historic match-ups between iconic musicals who duked it out to receive the crown. For the first outing we look at 1998's contest: The Lion King vs. Ragtime - with Side Show and The Scarlet Pimpernel ready to swoop in and steal the whole thing. What a doozy of a battle that was! So many questions flying through the theatre district in the weeks before the Awards. Hey, Elton John and Julie Taymor, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" Will "Ragtime" ride "The Wheels of a Dream" to victory? Oh, "Who Will Love Me As I Am?" Journey "Into the Fire" to see how it all played out. Featuring original cast members! Produced and directed by Scott Coulter. Come see how it all played out, with songs, stories, and even some Tony Awards-themed specials!

Featuring:
Patrick Page (Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark, The Lion King), Kyle Scatliffe (Olivier Award nominee and star of Les Miserables), Lisa Brescia (Mamma Mia!), Todd Buonopane (Cinderella), Lisa Howard (It Shoulda Been You), Julie James (Sirius XM Radio Star), Kristy Cates (Wicked), F. Michael Haynie (Dogfight, Peter Pan: LIVE), Julian Decker (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Michael McCorry Rose (Wicked, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder), and Jason Robinson (Cinderella).

The Broadway By The Year chorus:
Graham Bailey, Ally Bonino, Oakley Boycott, Paula Buresh, Mark Cajigao, Elijah Caldwell, Madeline Hamlet, Matthew Hill, Charlie Jhaye, John Moser, Ricky Alan Saunders, Ryan Scoble, Courtney Simmons, Carlton Terrence Taylor, Jr., Matt Weinstein, and more!

John & Jen Album Release Concert

Where: 54 Below (254 W 54th Street)

When: June 6th at 9:30 PM

Tickets: $30-70 at http://54below.com/artist/john-jen-album-release-concert/

Celebrate the release of the new John & Jen cast recording with its composer, Andrew Lippa, at the piano, and its stars, Tony Award nominee Kate Baldwin as Jen and Conor Ryan as John. John & Jen is a truly original musical honoring brothers and sisters and parents and children, set against the background of a changing America between 1950 and 1990. It is a gem of a show brimming with intelligence, wit and beautiful melodies. It is a musical about connections, commitments and the healing of the human heart.

The New Yorker recently called it "a powerful, moving portrayal of how deeply family members can love and hurt one another." This rare revival, presented by Keen Company, stars Kate Baldwin (Finian's Rainbow, Big Fish) and Conor Ryan (most recently seen in The Fortress of Solitude at The Public Theater and the Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella). John & Jen features music by Andrew Lippa and lyrics by Tom Greenwald.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that singer Lindsay Mendez and pianist/bandleader Marco Paguia make their exciting return to Birdland on Sunday, June 7 at 6pm.

Lindsay Mendez and Marco Paguia met in 2010, and discovered a mutual love and passion for jazz. Lindsay and Marco draw from an eclectic mix of music, reimagining songs from popular music in the familiar setting of a jazz piano trio and vocalist. Their vast catalogue is comprised of the singers and songwriters that inspire them, including Alexi Murdoch, Alicia Keys, The Beatles, Feist, Fiona Apple, Gladys Knight, Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Martin Sexton, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, The Police, Stevie Wonder, and U2. Their debut album, "This Time," was released in 2013 and is available on their website www.LMandMP.com, iTunes and other digital retailers. The duo made their Lincoln Center debut as part of the American Songbook series last season. For this special engagement at Birdland, Lindsay & Marco will be featuring an expanded lineup, including a four-piece horn section.

The show will feature Lindsay Mendez on vocals, Marco Paguia on piano, Greg Chudzik on bass, Tommy Crane on drums, Curtis Macdonald on alto saxophone, Kyle Wilson on tenor saxophone, Kenny Warren on trumpet, and Marshall Gilkes on trombone.
