Where: 54 Below (254 W 54th Street)
When: April 27, 29, & 30th at 7:00 PM
Tickets: $35-90 at http://54below.com/artist/jay-armstrong-johnson/
Jay Armstrong Johnson has wowed Broadway audiences in On The Town (Chip), Hands on a Hardbody (Greg), Hair(Claude), and Catch Me If You Can. The New York Times called his performance as Anthony Hope in the New York Philharmonic's Sweeney Todd "affecting and ardent," and his performance as Herman in Encores' Most Happy Fella "a standout."
Known for his thrilling vocal prowess in modern projects like Ryan Scott Oliver's 35MM (Galapagos Art Space, iTunes) and for his skill and charm at old-school song and dance in projects like Pirates! (The MUNY), Johnson now premieres his personal, eclectic solo show at Feinstein's/54 Below. If you want an inside look at one of Broadway's hottest stars on the rise, this is the concert to see.
Johnson will be joined by a full all-star band and will perform songs from Broadway to radio pop to gospel with fresh arrangements. Expect everything from Sondheim to Dixie Chicks! The band features Rodney Bush, Trey Ware, Allison Seidner, Kiku Enumoto, Micah Burgess, Josh Plotner, and Mark Van Ziegler.
Special guests Lindsay Mendez (Wicked, Dogfight) and Billy Lewis Jr. (Glee) join Jay for all 3 performances. Youtube sensation Todrick Hall will make a special appearance on April 30.
Early exposure to a variety of musical genres kept Johnson afloat as a kid in Texas for awhile. Amidst bullying and hard times at home, music and theatre was an escape and an oasis, a place to be understood and to actually share all that music in his head.
This dedication to the stage led to a role on the national tour of A Chorus Line, which led to a Broadway bow as Claude in Hair at the age of only 21. Johnson's wholehearted focus on learning all kinds of music while growing up gave him an eclectic set of talents, allowing him to go from a 60s love rock musical like Hair to performing like a flashy big band crooner in Catch Me If You Can to utilizing country and pop sensibilities in Hands on a Hardbody to the rock grit and complexity of Jeff Buckley music while playing Romeo in The Last Goodbye, all within just a couple years. His acclaimed recent turns in Sweeney Todd and On The Town emphasized his abilities in classical vocal technique, even on such different musicals. NJ.com called him "A true song and dance man... the latest triple-threat to hit the Broadway stage," and NBC New York noted: "[he has] boundless energy and charm!"
Join us for an unbelievably personal evening celebrating all that theatre and music can be, from one Broadway actor who knows that theatre and music saved his life.

Tickets: $35-75 at http://54below.com/artist/the-skivvies/
This "musically thrilling" undie-rock, comedy-pop duo don't just strip down their musical arrangements, they literally strip down to their underwear to perform their distinctive mashups and eccentric originals for cello and ukulele, with touches of glockenspiel, melodica, and a surprising array of under-used instruments. Award-winning singer-actors Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages) and Nick Cearley (All Shook Up) became YouTube sensations as The Skivvies, with living room videos that displayed their powerful harmonies as well as their powerful abs. Those clips led to live shows that The Wall Street Journal called "smart, sophisticated...ingenious," and Out Magazine, "The Skivvies have managed to carve out a niche that we never knew needed to exist: part Weird Al- parody and part sexy burlesque...and unusual explosion of satire and sultry." They also have a single and music video directed by Augusten Burroughs, bestselling author of Running With Scissors. They will be joined by special guest stars who will strip down and rock out. Expect a hilarious evening of genre-hopping pop perfection.
