Broadway Vet and Singer Harry Connick, Jr. to Star in Comedy Pilot for Fox

Deadline writes that Harry Connick, Jr. -- new judge for AMERICAN IDOL -- will star in a comedy pilot for Fox written by Eric and Justin Stangel (The Late Show).

The untitled project will follow Connick, Jr., an entertainer and single dad who steps away from his career to spend time with his teenage daughter.

Worldwide Pants will produce with ABC Studios, alongside executive producers David Letterman, Rob Burnett, Ann Marie Wilkins and Connick, Jr.

Connick, Jr. last appeared in as a series regular on NBC's WILL & GRACE. The actor's upcoming big screen projects include Angels Sing and Dolphin Tale 2, and his past credits include Dolphin Tale, New in Town, P.S. I Love You, Bug, The Iron Giant, Independence Day and more. He has also appeared on television in Law & Order: SVU.

The singer has appeared on Broadway in On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, Harry Connick, Jr. in Concert, The Pajama Game -- for which he was nominated for the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical -- and An Evening with Harry Connick, Jr. He is also the composer/lyricist for Thou Shalt Not, for which he was nominated for the 2002 Tony Award for Best Original Musical Score.
