Broadway Vet Lily Tomlin to Star in Road Trip Comedy GRANDMA

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Classics has inked a deal for the worldwide rights to the road trip comedy GRANDMA, starring two-time Tony Award winner Lily Tomlin.

The comedy follows "a grandmother (Tomlin) and her granddaughter on a daylong journey as hidden secrets are revealed and past memories are divulged in a long and intimate car ride.

Julia Garner, Marcia Gay Harden, Judy Greer, Laverne Cox and Sam Elliott also star in the film, which was directed, written and co-produced by Paul Weitz.

Tomlin began a career as a stand-up comedian and became a featured performer on television's Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.

The Broadway vet is a two-time Tony Award winner, starring in The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe. She wrote, directed and performed in Appearing Nitely.

She has starred in such films as Nashville, 9 to 5, All of Me, The Beverly Hillbillies, Orange County, and I Heart Huckabees. Her notable television roles include Laugh-In as a cast member from 1970-73, Ms. Frizzle on The Magic School Bus, Kay Carter-Shepley on Murphy Brown, Deborah Fiderer on The West Wing, and Lillie Mae MacKenzie on Malibu Country.

The actress will soon reunite with her "9 to 5" co-star Jane Fonda in the upcoming Netflix comedy "Grace and Frankie."
