Broadway Licensing Acquires CLUE: ON STAGE Licensing Rights Image

Theatrical licensor Broadway Licensing has secured North American licensing rights to Clue: On Stage, which premiered at the Bucks County Playhouse.

Based on the Paramount film and the Hasbro board game, the stage show is adapted from the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn with additional material by Hunter Foster, Sandy Rustin and Eric Price.

Press notes describe the show as a "murder-mystery comedy thriller" that follows six guests at a mysterious dinner party where they find themselves implicated as murder suspects when their host turns up dead. Wadsworth, the butler, leads Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green, Colonel Mustard, and other guests attempt to find the killer as the body count builds. Following in the footsteps of the film, the project bills itself as a "comedy whodunit."

"We are extremely proud and excited to partner with The Araca Group, Work Light Productions and the entire development team of Clue to bring this beloved and outrageously funny film adaptation to millions of fans worldwide," said Sean Cercone, President of Broadway Licensing.

"On behalf of The Araca Group and Work Light Productions, we are all thrilled that this iconic story will be available to be performed by theaters around the country," said Michael Barra, Co-President of Lively McCabe Entertainment. "The Stock and Amateur marketplace played a large factor in our decision to pursue this property, and expediting the show's availability, especially to high schools, is something we're quite proud of. We are all looking forward to working with Sean and his team at Broadway Licensing to bring Clue to as many theater-goers as possible in the coming years."

The world-premiere production was directed by Hunter Foster with musical staging by Jen Cody, and starred Sally Struthers as Mrs. Peacock, Carson Elrod as Wadsworth, and Erin Dilly as Mrs. White.

Clue will tour the U.S. in 2019. Work Light Productions (RENT, Mamma Mia!, Motown The Musical) and The Araca Group (Disgraced, SpongeBob Squarepants) will produce, in association with Aged in Wood and Lively McCabe Entertainment.
