On Monday, April 28, 2014, Broadway Inspirational Voices (BIV), under the direction of Michael McElroy (TONY Award Nominee, Big River), will be joining the The New York Pops as it marks its 31st birthday. It will be a grand gala evening celebrating the work of longtime friends and BIV supporters composer, lyricist, and arranger Marc Shaiman and director, lyricist, and writer Scott Wittman, as well as the leadership and mentorship work of corporate honoree Paul J. Massey, Jr., CEO and Founding Partner of Massey Knakal Realty Services. BIV features members from Motown: The musical, The Lion King, Wicked,Spider-Man, The Book of Mormon, Annie, Kinky Boots, After Midnight and more.
The event begins at 7:00 PM with a concert at Carnegie Hall, featuring a spectacular lineup of guest artists under the baton of Music Director Steven Reineke, featuring highlights from the work of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. In addition to Christian Borle, Capathia Jenkins, Jane Krakowski, Patti LuPone, Andrea Martin, and Martin Short, who were previously announced, performers will include Nikki Blonsky, Ricki Lake, Katharine McPhee, and Marissa Jaret Winokur, who will be making their Carnegie Hall debuts, as well as Kerry Butler, Will Chase, Linda Hart, and Jennifer Lewis. Additional artists will be announced at a later date.
Broadway Inspirational Voices was originally founded by McElroy in 1994 as the Broadway Gospel Choir and in 1999 was reincarnated to its current form. In addition to numerous concerts, the group has performed on The Tonight Show, "The Rosie O'Donnell Christmas Special," Broadway Sings Elton John, The Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Benefit, and The 2000 Tony Awards.. The Broadway Inspirational Voices second album Great Joy: A Gospel Christmas was released on Sh-K-Boom Records in 2003 and received a Grammy Award nomination.
