Broadway Bound Theatre Festival Announces New Playwright Scholarships Image

Broadway Bound Theatre Festival (BBTF) is proud to announce its new financial aid programs, thanks to the generous support of its donors via the auspices of its fiscal sponsorship by Fractured Atlas. The series of scholarships focuses on developing personal relationships by introducing recipients and their benefactors.

  • The Scholarship Fund: Providing partial scholarships for financially-challenged playwrights to help offset the acceptance fee into the festival.
  • The Playwright Benefactor Program: Underwriting the full cost of acceptance for a financially-challenged playwright.

  • The Women Playwright Scholarship Fund: A scholarship dedicated specifically to female and female-identifying playwrights to help offset the acceptance fee into the festival.

As noted in the forward to The Kilroys List (first published collection 2017) women comprised 16 percent of all playwrights produced in America in 1974. In 2014, that percentage had only increased by one percent to 17 percent. Though the number of female playwrights produced has ticked up a few percent in the past three years, the female-founders and operators of BBTF find this fact unacceptable. This scholarship was added in hope of helping to stage more work by women and trans-women.

Financial aid is based on need. Recipients will be notified after the interview stage of participant selection.
