Renowned producer, director & actor, George C Heslin, joins The OPTimistiks to direct a one-off tribute event to celebrate one of the UK's favourite comedians, Victoria Wood, who died unexpectedly in the Spring.

Heslin, Artistic Director of Origin Theatre Company, and an ensemble of familiar and emerging NY-based British, Irish & Anglophile actors will present sketches and scenes featuring favourite characters and songs from the multi-award winning British actor, comedian, musician & writer.

Victoria Wood was a National Treasure in the UK; the 1st lady of comedy - like a British Carol Burnett, Roseanne Barr or Tina Fey. Her wryly observed take on the idiosyncrasies of British life paved the way for funny women like Jennifer Saunders & Dawn French, Catherine Tate and Miranda Hart. In fact, Wood once won a poll of "People You'd Most Like To Live Next Door To", beating the Queen Mother into second place.

In a glittering career, spanning four decades, she garnered five BAFTA Awards, six British Comedy Awards and was nominated for an International Emmy. She was also honoured by the Queen, receiving the OBE, then the CBE.

Victoria Wood: AS SEEN IN THE BIG APPLE will include Acorn Antiques, Two Soups, Kimberley & the Ballad of Barry & Freda [aka the 'Can't Do It' song]. All proceeds to Victoria's nominated charity, Jessie's Fund, to provide musical therapy for seriously ill children.

The Triad Theatre on West 72nd Street, just off-Broadway, will host the event on Saturday 3rd December at 3pm.

Tickets range from $30 (General Admission - Mrs Overall) to $60 (Premium - Miss Babs) and there is a two drinks minimum: www.thetriadnyc.com TEL 212-279 4200

The event runs on Sat Dec 3rd at 3pm, Runtime 70mins at The TriadStage 72 ,158 West 72nd Street b/t Broadway-Amsterdam/Columbus, NY10023 http://www.triadnyc.com
