Bristol Riverside Theatre expands its offerings for families and young audiences by presenting programming for all ages with a series of original family shows from Theatre Arts Center and Hedgerow Theatre as a part of the 2009-2010 Season. The productions include Cinderella's Birthday Party, That's What Kids Do!, Tiny Tim's Christmas, and Snow White and the Little People. [A full performance schedule follows below.]
First, Cinderella's Birthday Party gives young audiences the opportunity to attend, in costume if they wish, the birthday party of Cinderella's daughter, Cindy. Princesses like Snow White and Sleeping Beauty travel from far and wide to attend the party and are protected by Fairy Godmothers along the way. Cinderella's Birthday Party is a 55-minute musical written exclusively for Hedgerow Theatre by the Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed.
Next, BRT hosts an original musical from Theatre Arts Center, That's What Kids Do!. The musical for young audiences, starring a full cast of kids, offers 14 original numbers written by award-winning composer Cathy Block. The playful score includes songs like Cafeteria Food and Homework Blues that give audiences a glimpse into the world of children as seen from their point of view. The cast is completed by The Living Green Children's Chorus, a talented group of young singers from Bucks County, PA.
Coming to BRT in December is Hedgerow's adaptation of A Christmas Carol, Tiny Tim's Christmas, gives young holiday audiences the opportunity to see the classic Dickens' tale through the eyes of one of the most beloved characters in classic literature, Tiny Tim. The Crachitt family, the toymaker, the bread lady and other colorful townspeople all share the BRT stage with Scrooge, Tiny Tim and the three angels (not ghosts!) of Christmas to tell the story of one magical Christmas Eve.
Finally, BRT ends the 2009-2010 season with Hedgerow Theatre's Snow White and the Little People. As the Grim Brothers, Wilhelm and Jakob Grimm, narrate the story of the fairest Snow White and the Wicked Queen, "little people" from the audience are asked to help save the princess from the Wicked Queen's spell.
