BRISTOL, PA – Bristol Riverside Theatre, an award-winning professional theatre in Bucks County, is reaching out to younger audiences this season with the introduction of the Balcony Club – a pilot program that makes every ticket in the BRT balcony available to patrons under the age of 40 for just $10.
With support from The William Penn Foundation, the pilot version of the program will be tested during the fall 2009 run of the musical I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change (November 3 – 22). Cleverly exploring the trials and tribulations of being single, dating, marriage, loss, and heartbreak, the show was described by The Star Ledger as “A great date show. A perfect mating dance. It’s Seinfeld set to music.”
Balcony Club patrons will not only be able to buy $10 tickets, but can also take advantage of special offerings like Singles Night, drink specials at the King George II Inn following the show, and can even propose and get married at BRT during the run of the show. BRT hopes to extend the subsidized ticket program beyond the pilot period with the help of additional funding.
Modeled loosely on similar programs initiated with great success by the National Theater in London and Signature Theatre in New York City, the Balcony Club program is designed to create cultural opportunities for new and younger audiences and to establish theatre-going as a habit.
“By reducing ticket prices to $10, in a moment of economic hardship, we are offering wider access to cultural events for all those in Bucks County and beyond,” says Amy Kaissar, Managing Director of Bristol Riverside Theatre. “The immediate outcome of this program will be to welcome new faces to our theatre and provide a social space for younger patrons, but the long-term impact is where the program’s real strengths lie. We seek to cultivate new audiences, who will think of BRT as a place not only to experience high quality, entertaining theatre, but as a great destination to connect with other young professionals and to get together with friends.”
