'Brigadoon' Revival Posts Casting Notice; Ashford to Direct

First reported by Variety, this morning a casting notice for the for the 1947 musical Brigadoon further confirmed the rumors of an upcoming Broadway revival to be directed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford (Cry-Baby, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Curtains, London's Parade).

According to the casting notice "rehearsal and opening dates for this production have not been set." The notice goes on to describe the production as a "Vivid re-imagining of the classic 1947 production; new production with a revised book. Story of Tommy and Jeff, two modern-day American travelers, who stumble back in time to a village in 18th-century Scotland." 

With book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frank Lowe, the play tell the story of a Scottish fantasy about a town that disappears into the Highland mist and returns for only one day every one hundred years. It includes "Waitin' for My Dearie", "I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean", "Come to Me", "Bend to Me", "Almost Like Being in Love", "There But for You Go I", "The Heather on the Hill" and "My Mother's Weddin' Day."

Brigadoon played for 581 performances on Broadway at the Ziegfeld Theatre and for 685 performances in London at His Majesty's Theatre. It has been revived on Broadway several times, most recently in 1980 at the Majestic Theatre, where it played for 133 performances.
