Tragedy recently struck the Broadway community when Ruthie Ann Miles was the victim of a fatal car crash that took the life of her four year old daughter Abigail. The New York Daily News has just released further details about the driver, stating that she had a series of medical emergencies leading up to the crash.. (more...)
2) ANASTASIA Lawsuit Continues as Judge Questions Copyright Infringement

As BroadwayWorld reported last year, the heir of French playwright Marcelle Maurette sued playwright Terrence McNally and the producers of the Broadway hit Anastasia for plagiarizing material from the 1952 play. Jean-Etienne de Becdelievre claimed that 20th Century Fox licensed the play for its 1956 and 1997 films, but not for stage productions.. (more...)

4) Deaf Actor Joshua Castille to Star as Quasimodo in The 5th Avenue Theatre's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

This summer The 5th Avenue Theatre is staging an exciting new production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame starring Joshua Castille as Quasimodo. A Deaf actor, Castille is celebrated for his performances in Tribes at ACT Theatre in Seattle and in Spring Awakening with Deaf West on Broadway. Quasimodo, who is deaf in Victor Hugo's literary masterpiece, is a character that Castille and The 5th are excited to elevate and delve more deeply into with the real-life experiences and stories of a deaf actor leading the way. Castille, who makes his 5th Avenue Theatre debut, will use American Sign Language (ASL) throughout his performance. Justin Gregory Lopez returns to The 5th (Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon) as one of the cathedral's gargoyles and as Quasimodo's "voice" in song.. (more...)
