Joe's Pub at The Public has confirmed the premiere of Bridget Everett in Rock Bottom, a brand new theatrical event commissioned as part of its New York Voices series on October 30, November 1 & 2 at 9:30 PM. Written by Everett with Tony-winning writing duo Marc Shaiman & Scott Wittman and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys, Rock Bottom is the entertainer's first major show since 2007's At Least It's Pink and the first since her critically-acclaimed tour with Comedy Central's Inside Amy Schumer. In Rock Bottom, Bridget Everett barrels through life tip-toeing toward disaster, wine bottle by wine bottle and man by man. Instead of succumbing to her chardonnay-induced stupor, Bridget embraces a series of revelations that lead this voice of an angel to redemption. Rock Bottom is what happens when you're too passionate to give up, and too big to fail. The performance will feature familiar songs from Everett's monthly sold-out showcase at Joe's Pub with her band The Tender Moments (Bridget Everett, Vocals; Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, Bass; Carmine Covelli, Drums; Mike Jackson, Guitar; Matt Ray, Piano) as well as new songs written with Shaiman, Wittman and Horovitz.
"It has been a unique pleasure to watch Bridget's career develop over the years and to see her audience continue to grow," said Joe's Pub director Shanta Thake. "We are thrilled that yet another side of her ferocious talent will come to life through this commission."
New York Voices lets musicians explore different ways of storytelling, narrative and songwriting while connecting them to The Public Theater's artistic staff and a wider theater audience. The goal of the program is to work closely with each artist to develop new works that are ultimately toured nationally and internationally. Previous artists commissioned for New York Voices include Ethan Lipton, Lady Rizo, Angelique Kidjo, Allen Toussaint, Abigail Washburn and Toshi Reagon."Being rock bottom with Bridget Everett is everything you hope it will be," said director Scott Wittman. "Always remember, success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom, and boy can Bridget bounce."
"I have always dreamed of singing like an angel, being proud of my body and dancing onstage wearing nothing but dental floss," saidShaiman. "Working with Bridget Everett is the closest I'll ever come to fulfilling that dream."
