Playwrights Brian Reno and Gabriel Vega Weissman will present Loose Canon as part of the 19th annual New York International Fringe Festival- FringeNYC. Brian and Gabriel love a bargain. They drink beers on the couch instead of at the bar. One day, looking for something cheap to do, they entered a playwriting contest. Our fledgling artists wrote their first draft in the cradle of inspiration... the dining hall of Gowanus IKEA. Two years later they are excited to bring their work to life.
From Moliere in IKEA to Chekhov in a Tex-Mex restaurant, Loose Canon is a series of short comedies that satirizes the world of the American consumer through the lens of canonical playwrights.
Joining Reno and Weissman on the Loose Canon creative team is director Logan Reed, scenic and props designer Riw Rakkulchon, costume designer Ntokozo F Kunene, lighting designer Zach Blane and sound designer Zack McKenna. The company of performers include Becky Baumwoll, Grant Chamberlin, Cynthia Nesbit, Todd, Rizley, Tamara Sevunts, and Daniel Tepper.

Brian Reno stumbled out of college and, upon discovering his English degree was more marketable as a paper airplane, followed his nose to Murray's Cheese in the West Village. Brian has since worked in a cheese cave, as a food radio journalist, on a mushroom farm, and now at Farmigo, an online farmer's market. Brian has decided to unfold his paper airplane and try his hand at playwriting with his best friend, who owns a similarly valued English degree. This is his first play.
