Tonight, Broadway's celebrated revival of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse's Tony Award-winning musical CHICAGO is pleased to welcome back Brent Barrett in the role of "that silver-tongued prince of the courtroom," Billy Flynn.
A longtime fixture within the CHICAGO family, Brent Barrett takes over for acclaimed television star and author John O'Hurley ("Seinfeld," "Dancing with the Stars"), who plays his final performance on Sunday, December 18.
Brent Barrett returns to CHICAGO after playing Ben in the recent sold-out run of Follies at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater this fall. This past summer he originated the role of Dr. Hannibal (The Cannibal!) Lecter in Silence! The Musical. Before that he spent two years playing the Phantom in Phantom: Las Vegas Spectacular.
His other Broadway credits include Annie Get Your Gun opposite Reba McEntire, Dance a Little Closer, Grand Hotel, Candide, Brigadoon and West Side Story. In London's West End, he has appeared in Kiss Me, Kate (Olivier Award nomination) and Grand Hotel.
On tour, he has appeared in Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies, Busker Alley with Tommy Tune, Annie Get Your Gun opposite Cathy Rigby and Chicago, for which he received an L.A. Drama Critics Award. His Off-Broadway credits include Closer Than Ever, March of the Falsettos, The Time Of Cuckoo and Portrait of Jenny.
Brent has recorded three solo albums: The Alan Jay Lerner Album, The Kander and Ebb Album and Christmas Mornings.
The Broadway production of CHICAGO also currently stars Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Bahiyah Hibah as Velma Kelly, Chris Sullivan as Amos Hart and Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton. Longtime CHICAGO veteran Raymond Bokhour will appear in the role of Amos Hart from December 19 through January 1.
With a legendary book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today's tabloids.
Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Tony Award winner Ann Reinking, CHICAGO features set design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Tony Award winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington and sound design by Scott Lehrer.
