Racked is reporting that in an unexpected but cautiously hopeful development in the Vittorio Missoni missing plane story, a mysterious text message received is leading officials to believe that the plane was possibly hijacked. The Daily Beast reports:
"The son of Guido Foresti, one of the four people in the plane with Missoni and his companion, received a SMS message late Sunday night saying, in Italian: 'Call now, we are reachable.' Italian telephone company Telecom Italia Mobile confirmed to a local television station that the message was sent, but they say they cannot verify exactly when it was written.
"It's better to be kidnapped than at the bottom of the sea," Angela Missoni, Vittorio's sister and head of design at the Missoni company, told Italian reporters outside her home earlier today. "We hope all four are alive and well. We also hope that the searches go in all directions."
According to the Beast, investigators are now looking into whether there is any evidence pointing to a kidnapping and, if so, whether the pilots may have been involved.
