In a move that reflects the company's continued expansion into the fashion apparel space, Bravado, Universal Music Group's global music merchandising company, has launched Marley Apparel, a new and exciting men's clothing line, drawing inspiration and paying tribute to the late and legendary Bob Marley and his signature style during the 60's and 70's.
Designed by Bob Marley's eldest daughter Cedella Marley, the collection embodies Marley's passion for life in the studio and on the soccer field. Iconic images of Marley are brought to life using high quality and sustainable fabrics to create a collection of modern day casual-wear with a retro twist.
Stated Cedella Marley, "It's an Honor for me to spread my father's legacy to a loyal fanbase that continues to expand. Working with Bravado is endlessly rewarding as they truly understand the importance of my father's music and messages and have been key to bringing these inspirations to life through the medium of fashion."
"As Bravado continues to expand and moves further into the fashion apparel space, we take great care that our product lines remain true to the spirit of the music that inspires them, and this collection is no different," commented Tom Bennett, Chief Executive Officer, Bravado. "Bob Marley was one of the most important recording artists and cultural icons in history. We're thrilled to continue to work with Cedella and the Marley family to bring their vision to fruition in such a unique and special way."
Marley Apparel is comprised of refined utilitarian pieces with stand-out garments including Marley Apparel Boardshorts, made from recycled plastic bottle fibers converted to sustainable fabrics, featuring unique archived prints and collages from Bob's home of Kingston, Jamaica. The Marley Apparel Fall/Winter 2014 Collection boasts a series of heavy cotton-slub varsity sweaters, washed cotton twill bottoms, French terry knits and chambray woven men's shirts.
Outerwear includes the Marley Apparel Field Jacket, featuring subtle odes to Bob through patches symbolizing fire, wind and water, as well as the Rastafarian flag emblazoned with 1945 (Bob's birth year.) The Marley Apparel Denim Collection - with washed denim and tailored cuts - remains true to Bob's authentic style; each item is an absolute must-have this fall.
Marley Apparel launched a limited edition Soccer Capsule Collection 2014 last week that features an array of soccer tees and track-jackets inspired by actual tees worn by Bob on the soccer field and the FIFA World Cup event in Brazil. Made from hemp and organic cotton, each piece maintains a vintage feel while infusing colors from the flags of the United States, England, Brazil, Ghana and France. The Soccer Capsule Collection 2014 will debut alongside select signature Marley Apparel Spring/Summer 2014 pieces.
Every design element in this exclusive new collection serves to stay true to Bob's fashion sensibility- from top of the range sustainable fabrics to distressed enameled buttons. Each garment is adorned with a Marley Apparel signature tea-stained woven label, featuring the Rastafarian spiritual symbol of a crown. A launch party was held at Miss Lily's authentic Jamaican restaurant and record store on Houston Street in New York City on June 12. The line also premiered on June 14 at the popular Surf Lodge in Montauk. Each celebration was attended by the Marley family and featured viewings of the collection, music, food and beverages in recognition of the line's debut. A portion of the net proceeds from the sale of Marley Apparel will go to the One Love Gardens initiative. One Love Gardens helps fund and create self-sufficient, eco-friendly plots of land for the less affluent communities to grow food and herbs in Jamaica and eventually around the world.
Items from Marley Apparel Spring/Summer 2014 and Soccer Capsule Collection 2014 will be available nationwide at select retailers on www.wearmarley.com.
