Brandon Bieber, Brynn O'Malley, and Mary Beth Peil Talk Sondheim on THE ENSEMBLIST Podcast's 37th Episode

Mo Brady and Nikka Graff Lanzarone announce the release of The Ensemblist's 37th episode: "Sondheim Ensemblists."

To celebrate one of the most renowned composers and lyricists of the last several decades (and the big-screen release of Into the Woods), Nikka and Mo interview three multifaceted performers who have had the pleasure of performing Stephen Sondheim's work on Broadway. Guests Brandon Bieber, Brynn O'Malley, and Mary Beth Peil reveal some of the highlights of working on a Sondheim musical, whether on Broadway and in regional theaters. Each of these guests discuss the rewards of working with Sondheim and what makes his musicals so special.

Bieber (Side Show, Follies, Anything Goes, Mary Poppins) clues listeners in to the difficulties that may arise when learning a Sondheim score, as well as why it's challenging to pick just one favorite Sondheim musical. O'Malley (Honeymoon in Vegas, Annie, Sunday in the Park with George, Wicked, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast) reveals how Sondheim helped her realize her dream of performing and why his shows are so relatable for people, especially actors. Peil (Follies, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Sunday in the Park with George, Nine, The King and I) started in the opera world, but was intrigued by the idea of musical theatre when she experienced the original Broadway production of Sweeney Todd; she talks about the uniqueness of being a Sondheim ensemblist.
