Brain 101' Master Class Now Open at AMNH 12/16

For the first time, the curators of the popular Brain: The Inside Story exhibition are offering an intensive "Brain 101" master class to the general public. This exciting first offering in the Museum's new adult education series will begin with presentations about the latest neuroscience research by Rob DeSalle, curator in the Museum's Division of Invertebrate Zoology; Joy Hirsch, director of the Program for Imaging& Cognitive Sciences at Columbia University; and behavioral neuroscientist and psychoanalyst Maggie Zellner of The Rockefeller University. The adult education series will continue into 2011 with two courses: The Adult Brain: An Owner's Manual and Neuroscience and Child Development.

Participants will have the opportunity to join the conversation about all things
brain, including:
· what imaging technologies tell us about autism, chronic pain, eating disorders, and executive decision making;
· a review of the 500-year-old evolutionary history of the mammalian brain; and
· a user-friendly tour of the geography of the brain highlighting the centers of feelings, memories, and self-control

Light refreshments will be served. A free ticket to the Brain exhibition is included with admission.
