Brad Garrett, the actor who created the role of Murray the Cop in the current smash revival of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, will fill in for Nathan Lane through January 22nd. The latter actor has been stricken with laryngitis, resulting in the cancellation of shows on January 18th and 19th.

Garrett left The Odd Couple on January 1st. In addition to playing Murray (a role now played by Mike Starr), he understudied Lane in the role of Oscar. The "Everybody Loves Raymond" star, who was in California at the time, signed on to fill Lane's shoes after receiving a call from the producers of the revival. Garrett will play performances on Friday, January 20th at 8 PM, Saturday, January 21st at 2 PM and 8 PM and Sunday, January 22nd at 2 PM; Lane will return for the evening show on Tuesday, January 24th.

The show, a sell-out hit with audiences, recently extended its run through June 4th; stars Lane and Matthew Broderick will stay on.
Directed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello (Assassins, Take Me Out, Wicked), The Odd Couple also stars Starr (Requiem for a Heavyweight, "Ed," many films) as Murray, Lee Wilkof (Democracy, Kiss Me, Kate, Little Shop of Horrors) as Vinnie, Rob Bartlett (Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors revival) as Speed, Peter Frechette (Eastern Standard, Our Country's Good) as Roy, Olivia d'Abo ("The Wonder Years," Wayne's World 2) as Gwendolyn Pigeon and Jessica Stone (Grease, How to Succeed...) as Cecily Pigeon. The show opened on October 27th at the Brooks Atkinson theatre to somewhat mixed reviews.

The Odd Couple relates the platonic love story of two very mismatched men--neatnik photographer Felix Unger (Broderick) and sportswriting sloven Oscar Madison (Lane). Sharing a room, their initial warm feelings for one another are tested when their lifestyles clash.

The revival is produced by
Emanuel Azenberg, Ira Pittelman, Jeffrey Sine, Max Cooper and Ben Sprecher. The Odd Couple features
sets by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Ann Roth and lighting design by Kenneth Posner.
