The American Theatre Wing and XM Satellite Radio proudly present an interview with actor Boyd Gaines, on their weekly theatrical interview show, "Downstage Center," on XM's On Broadway (XM Channel 28).

Gaines will appear as the special guest on Friday, June 27 at 6 p.m. The show will repeat on Saturday, June 28 at noon, Sunday, June 29 at 7 p.m., and Wednesday, July 2 at midnight (all times eastern; transmission is simultaneous across the country).  The program becomes available as streaming audio and podcast from www.americantheatrewing.org and iTunes beginning Monday evening, June 30.

Recorded on the eve of his fourth Tony Award win, actor Boyd Gaines talks about his busy year, including Journey's End, Pygmalion and both the Encores! and Broadway runs of Gypsy.  He also describes his early training and extensive work in regional theatre, both before and after his years on the sitcom One Day at a Time; his breakthrough role in Wendy Wasserstein's The Heidi Chronicles; his first Broadway musical experiences in the first Broadway revivals of She Loves Me and Company; how the dance musical Contact was developed; and what it was like to step into Henry Fonda's shoes in 12 Angry Men.

Boyd Gaines currently appears in Broadway's Gypsy. Other Broadway credits include: Pygmalion, Journey's End, Twelve Angry Men, Contact, Cabaret, The Show Off, She Loves Me, Company, and The Heidi Chronicles. Off- Broadway credits include: Bach at Leipzig, Major Barbara, The Shawl, Comedy of Errors, The Extra Man, The Maderati, The Winter's Tale, Barbarians, and A Month in the Country. Regional work includes performances at: Williamstown, Yale Rep, Center Stage, Long Wharf, Guthrie, and Kennedy Center. Gaines trained at Juilliard and found early stage work on the NYC stage at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Roundabout Theatre and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
