New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) and TodayTix, the theater ticket app, announced today a CheapTix mobile lottery for Lazarus by David Bowie and Enda Walsh (Once, Tony Award), BroadwayWorld has learned. To increase access to tickets, this TodayTix program will replace the previously announced in-person lottery and will offer $25 tickets to the fastest selling show in NYTW history.
Inspired by the novel The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis and directed by Ivo van Hove (Hedda Gabler, More Stately Mansions, Obie Awards), LAZARUS began previews on November 18 and officially opened December 7, 2015 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003) for a limited run now through Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
TodayTix allows you to enter the mobile lottery via the app, available in the App Store or Google Play Store. The entry period will begin each day at 12:01am , and continue until winners are notified via push notification 3-4 hours before the selected performance begins. Winners will be offered the opportunity to purchase $25 tickets, and can pick up their tickets at the NYTW box office beginning one hour prior to curtain. Lottery tickets and seat locations are subject to availability.
Following his revelatory production of Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, the internationally acclaimed director Ivo van Hove returns to New York Theatre Workshop with Lazarus. Mr. Walsh makes his return to NYTW after the successful run of Once. LAZARUS features songs specially composed by Mr. Bowie for this production as well as new arrangements of previously recorded songs.
The cast of Lazarus includes Golden Globe winner and six-time Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, "Dexter") as Thomas Newton, Tony Award nominee Cristin Milioti (Once) as Elly, and Michael Esper (The Last Ship) as Valentine, as well as Krystina Alabado (American Idiot), Sophia Anne Caruso (The Nether), Nicholas Christopher (Whorl Inside A Loop), Lynn Craig (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Bobby Moreno (Year of the Rooster), Krista Pioppi (Spring Awakening Nat'l Tour), Charlie Pollock (The Wild Party), and Brynn Williams (Bye Bye Birdie).
The production features scenic and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld; costume design by An D'Huys; video design by Tal Yarden; sound design by Brian Ronan; choreography by Annie-B Parson; music direction by Henry Hey; dramaturgy by Jan Peter Gerrits; stage management by James Latus; and casting by Telsey + Company/Bernard Kelsey, CSA & Andrew Femenella, CSA.
The performance schedule for Lazarus is as follows:
Through December 28, 2015: Tuesdays at 7pm, Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays at 8pm, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm and 7pm. Exceptions: There are no performances Thursday, December 24; and Friday, December 25. There are added performances on Monday, December 21 at 7pm and Monday, December 28 at 7pm.
For December 29 through January 20, 2016: Tuesday and Wednesday at 7pm, Thursday and Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm and 7pm. Exceptions: Tuesday, January 12; Wednesday, January 13; Monday, January 18; Tuesday, January 19; and Wednesday, January 20 will begin at 8pm. No performance Friday, January 1.
As previously announced, New York Theatre Workshop's 2015/16 season will also include the New York premiere of RED SPEEDO, written by Lucas Hnath (The Christians) and directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz (Hollow Roots), scheduled to begin performances on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. The season will conclude with the world premiere of a new folk opera, HADESTOWN, by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell. HADESTOWN was developed with and is directed by Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812), and will begin performances in May 2016.
