In April, Any Wednesday will continue in presenting performances by theatre and cabaret stars.
The series will, according to press notes, offer "unconventional entertainment and some unusual scheduling, as well as fresh and energizing performances. However, we retain our commitment to presenting the best in cabaret, jazz and theater music to our audiences for free in our large and comfortable events space on the third floor of Barnes & Noble at 66th and Broadway in New York City."
Due to a previously scheduled event, there will be no performance April 4. However, the store is hosting an event on Tuesday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m. that will be of interest to series regulars: just nights before the opening of The Pirate Queen, Alain Boublil and Claude-Michael Schönberg, the creators of the award-winning musicals Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre will discuss the creative process behind their masterpieces with Margaret Vermette - author of The Musical World of Boublil and Schönberg (Applause Books, April 2007). Musical selections to include "I'm Martin Guerre" (Martin Guerre), "On My Own" (Les Miz), and "The Last Night of the World" (Miss Saigon) will be performed by Broadway's Joe Paparella and Jennifer Zimmerman, with accompaniment by composer/performer Soren Anders of the popular band Shimmerplanet. Two pairs of tickets for Boublil and Schönberg's The Pirate Queen will be given away at this event.
April 11 brings a co-production of Any Wednesday and the Live at Lincoln series of live events at Barnes & Nobel when lyricist, director and performer Tom Jones and the cast of the new production of The Fanstasticks appear. Jones will talk about the amazing history of this beloved long-running music, and the cast will perform selections from the score. Please note that this event begins at 5:30.
April 18 will bring Any Wednesday back to its regular schedule of 6:00 p.m. as jazz singer Mary Foster Conklin pays tribute to the songwriter Matt Dennis (as she does on her acclaimed album "Blues for Breakfast: Remembering Matt Dennis").
Finally, on April 25, Any Wednesday will welcome San Francisco based cabaret star Terese Genecco. Described as a cross between Betty Hutton and Bette Midler, she will be featuring songs from her album 'Drunk With Love: A Tribute to Frances Faye.' With her will be her special guest, Barry Lloyd, who serves as Terese's musical director, as is a soloist in his own right. Both of these artists will be appearing at the Metropolitan Room at the end of the month.
