Borzova-Tonna Vocal Duo to Present MUSIC LIKE A CURVE OF GOLD Concert

The Borzova-Tonna Vocal Duo will be in concert on Friday, October 21 at 7:30 PM at Marc A. Scorca Hall at National Opera Center, 330 Seventh Avenue, between 28th and 29th Streets in Manhattan, performing their Music Like a Curve of Gold concert.

The Borzova-Tonna Vocal Duo (Alla Borzova, soprano and composer, and Anna Tonna, mezzo soprano), accompanied by pianist Olga Gurevich, will present works of contemporary women composers, including art songs and duets by Beth Anderson, Alla Borzova, Juliana Hall, Patricia Leonard, Binnette Lipper, Julia Mandel, Nataliya Medvedovskaya, Melanie Mitrano, Anne Phillips, Hilary Tann, Tawnie Olson, and Joelle Wallach. A scene from Alla Borzova's comic chamber opera The Wedding Gift of Pirate Granny will be presented as well. The themes range from mysticism, immigration & resistance, communion with nature and domestic bliss to carnivals and piracy.

The concert is made possible in part with a grant from The New York Women Composers Association.

The Borzova-Tonna Vocal Duo (Alla Borzova, soprano and composer, and Anna Tonna, mezzo-soprano) was formed in 2014 and is two-time recipient of the New York Women Composers Association award. The duo brings together a range of both national and international experiences stretching from art song and duet to opera. Award winning artists in their respective careers, the duo is joined by pianist Olga Gurevich, who enjoys a busy international career. In addition to classical and contemporary duet and solo repertoire, the duo presents recitals featuring music by historical and contemporary women composers. Among notable recent recitals dedicated to women composers was "There Is a Magic Made by Melody" in December of 2014 at historic St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in White Plains, Westchester, followed by operatic performance at the National Opera Center in Manhattan. New York Women Composers, Inc. was founded in 1984. It is a New York 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation with membership open to residents of New York State and the greater New York City metropolitan region who are women composers of serious concert music and to those in musical occupations who support the recognition of women composers. The mission of NYWC is to create performing, recording, networking, and mentoring opportunities for its members, and to work for the betterment of all women concert-music composers.
