The Laurie Beechman Theatre, located within The West Bank Café (407 West 42nd St.), continues The After Party, an informal social gathering for the theatrically inclined.
Every Friday from 10:30pm till 2am, theatre fans may join hosts Brandon Cutrell (MAC & Bistro Award winner) and Alysha Umphress (XL Star) with Ray Fellman (Captain Louie) at the piano for this weekly party in the theatre district. There is no cover charge and no minimum. "Come and sing yourself as the mic is always open, or sit back and enjoy a cocktail with friends. Located just blocks from the Great White Way, you never know who might drop in," state Beechman notes.
On Friday, November 3, After Party will receive a visit by Jeff Blumenkrantz, who received a Tony Award nomination for his contributions to the score of Urban Cowboy. He will be on hand to greet fans and belt out a few numbers as only he can. Umphess will also take the stage with Blumenkrantz.
Blumenkrantz has appeared on Broadway in Into the Woods (1987), The Threepenny Opera (1989), Damn Yankees, How to Succeed..., and A Class Act. On camera credits include "Will and Grace," "Law and Order," "All My Children," "Just Shoot Me," as well as the film of Joseph...Technicolor Dreamcoat and Great Performances: Candide with the NY Philharmonic.
As a composer, he received a Tony nomination for his contributions to the score of Urban Cowboy. His songs have been recorded by Audra McDonald ("I Won't Mind") and Megan Mullally ("Lament"), and he has received commissions from Carnegie Hall and Guggenheim Works and Process. The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located downstairs, within The West Bank Café, 407 West 42nd St. at 9th Avenue. There is a full bar and bar menu available, and reservations are not necessary for this event.
