According to IMDB News, Nikki Blonsky - who earned rave reviews for her exuberant turn as Tracy Turnblad in the smash Hairspray film - would love to reprise the role on Broadway in the future.
"Well, you know, maybe, definitely it's been brought to my attention and it's something that I think about every single day especially coming to the openings of Grease, and I went to the opening of Spring Awakening. I definitely go into live theatre; it perks me up, and makes me want to do it," she said.
Now eighteen, Blonsky was working in a local ice cream parlor when she was cast as Hairspray's Tracy. Prior to that, she performed in Great Neck productions of Hair and Alice in Wonderland, among others.
Nineteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema has brought the feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Hairspray to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy features a remarkable collection of talent including John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago), and director Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House). The film features a screenplay by Leslie Dixon, who adapted it from Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell's original book, as well as a score by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who contributed new songs to their existing Tony Award-winning score. It was released nationwide on July 20th.
