Blonsky, Coen, 'Enchanted' & 'Hairspray' Win Critics' Choice Awards

The 13th annual Critics' Choice Awards ceremony was broadcast live on VH1 on Monday, January 7, 2008 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.  The Broadcast Film Critics Association is the largest film critics organization in the United States and Canada, representing 199 television, radio and online critics. Among the winners was Nikki Blonsky who earned the Best Young Actress award for her star-turn as Tracey Turnblad in the movie-musical adaptation of Hairspray.  The singing and dancing cast of Hairspray also won for Best Acting Ensemble.  Ethan Coen, who is soon to be treading the boards as playwright to Atlantic Theater Company's world premiere production of Almost An Evening, shared the Best Director award with his brother, Joel Coen for their film No Country for Old Men.  Disney's latest hit, Enchanted, featuring live-action and animation with music by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, won for Best Family Film.
