Blair Underwood, who begins rehearsals on Feb. 28 for the exciting new Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Emily Mann, will appear on two nationally televised shows on the same day to talk about Streetcar, and his other current project, the NBC-TV special series “Who Do You Think You Are?"
On Friday, February 24th, Blair will appear on NBC’s “The Today Show” during the 8:30am half-hour (The Today Show airs in NY on Channel 4). Later that afternoon, he’ll appear with Anderson Cooper on his nationally syndicated show “Anderson,” which airs in NYC on WPIX Channel 11 from 4:00-5:00pm.
Stephen Byrd, Alia Jones and Anthony Lacavera will bring their much anticipated production of the Emily Mann directed A Streetcar Named Desire, to the Broadhurst Theatre beginning Tuesday, April 3, 2012 and will celebrate its opening for this limited run on Sunday, April 22through July 22, 2012. In addition to Blair Underwood as “Stanley,” the cast includes Nicole Ari Parker as “Blanche,” Tony NomineeDaphne Rubin-Vega as “Stella” and Wood Harris in the role of “Mitch.”
Tennessee Williams’ sultry drama, A Streetcar Named Desire is set against the sexy backdrop of New Orleans' gritty French Quarter. A Streetcar Named Desire tells the tale of former school teacher and socialite Blanche DuBois (Nicole Ari Parker), as she's forced to move in with her sister Stella (Rubin-Vega) and her animalistic husband Stanley (Blair Underwood). But the fragile, Blanche quickly gets a gritty life lesson in the seamy, steamy underbelly of 1950's New Orleans. The legendary Terence Blanchard has signed on to provide an original soundscape for the production.
