Nick Baines, the Bishop of Bradford, writes in today's Daily Telegraph that he is backing the forthcoming ITV Superstar series, to find a 'Jesus' for the new arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.

He asks: "Surely a church that is constantly mocked in the media for being unimaginative or obsessed with the wrong things could find the idea of 'the lord looking for the Lord’ at least vaguely intriguing? Isn’t the notion of 'searching for Jesus’ in itself rich with potential for a bit of creative engagement with popular culture on its own terms?"

He adds: "Musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar offer another way of capturing popular imagination and engaging another generation with the questions the gospels raise."

It was announced yesterday that the first two episodes of Superstar will be broadcast on Saturday 7 July (19.25 – 20.25) and Sunday 8 July (20.00 – 21.00).

We will be blogging each episode throughout the series - so keep an eye out!
