Presented by Delta Airlines, songstress Leny Andrade will take Birdland audiences on a journey with her sounds of Bossa Nova from her native Brazil to her love of Boleros (stemming from some years living in Mexico), all with a Jazz flavor. Shows are every night between August 31 and September 4th at Birdland (315 W. 44th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues) at 8:30pm and 11:00pm.
Her brand new CD, ALMA MIA, just released, focuses on her interest in boleros. Her performance at Birdland will feature some of the musical syles that appear on this new CD, produced by Pat Philips & Ettore Stratta.
"Leny Andrade is the Ella Fitzgerald of Brazil" -Tony Bennett
"To describe Ms. Andrade as both the Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald of bossa nova only goes so far in evoking a performer whose voice seems to contain the body and soul of Brazil...like everything else she performs, it seems to well up from the center of the earth.
