Biographers International Organization (BIO) will present its 2015 Editorial Excellence Award to Jonathan Segal, Vice President, Senior Editor, Alfred A. Knopf, at a ceremony in New York tonight, November 4. This is the second award for Editorial Excellence presented by BIO - the first, in 2014, was presented to Robert Gottlieb. The evening is co-sponsored by the New York Society Library.

Mr. Segal has been a journalist, editor and publisher in a storied publishing career that spans five decades. He is the editor of six Pulitzer Prize-winning books. Among the many bestselling authors with whom he has worked: Robert Gates, Andre Agassi, Peter Mayle, Harold Kushner, Ted Koppel, Robert B. Reich, Gay Talese, Elie Wiesel, Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof, Bill Bradley, Dexter Filkins, and Charles C. Mann.

On November 4, as part of the ceremony, four distinguished biographers Mr. Segal has edited will engage in a panel conversation about how biographies are conceived and crafted. The panelists include Paul Hendrickson, author of Hemingway's Boat, who has won the National Book Critics Circle Award and two Heartland Prizes; Eric Lax, former president of PEN USA and author of Woody Allen; and T.J. Stiles, winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for his book The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt, and author of the forthcoming Custer's Trials: A Life on the Frontier of a New America. The panel's moderator will be Kate Buford, the author of Native American Son: The Life and Sporting Legend of Jim Thorpe and Burt Lancaster: An American Life. After the panel discussion, the 2015 Award for Editorial Excellence will be presented to Mr. Segal by Carl Bernstein, whose best-selling biography of Hillary Clinton, A Woman In Charge, was also edited by Mr. Segal.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Israel, 112 East 75th Street, in Manhattan. Books will not be sold at the event, but the titles mentioned here may be purchased at the Corner Bookstore, 1313 Madison Avenue at 93rd Street, NYC.

The event is open to the public, and tickets may be purchased online at www.biographersinternational.org.
