With the issue of passing legislation to control the escalating instances of gun violence growing more urgent every day, the editors of Billboard have posted on the magazine's website "A Open Letter To Congress: Stop Gun Violence Now."
Referring to the murder of 49 people at Orlando's Pulse nightclub, in addition to the gun murder of singer Christina Grimmie, the letter states, "Music always has been celebrated communally, on dancefloors and at concert halls. But this life-affirming ritual, like so many other daily experiences-going to school or church or work-now is threatened, because of gun violence in this country."
The letter, which further urges congress to require a background check for every gun sale and to block suspected terrorists from buying guns, has been signed by nearly 200 entertainment artists and executives, including Barbra Streisand, Billy Joel, Sting, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Josh Groban, Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney, Alicia Keys and Sara Bareilles.
