Choreographer Bill T. Jones and actor/activist Kathy Najimy are among the guest speakers who will be participating in talks with Tony-winning playwright/performer Sarah Jones after performances of New York Live Arts' workshop production her new solo piece about sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, SELL/BUY/DATE.
Bill T. Jones, who is artistic director of New York Live Arts, will join Sarah Jones after the January 6th, opening performance. Najimy will appear on January 14th. Other guests include writer/blogger/critic Maria Popova (January 7th), activist and director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance Ai-Jen Poo (January 10th), performer/activist/writer Sarah Sophie Flicker (January 12th) and photo conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas (January 13th).
Sarah Jones was awarded a 2006 special Tony Award for her solo play BRIDGE AND TUNNEL, where she played a multi-cultural collection of fourteen women and men participating in a poetry reading in New York's Borough of Queens, the most cultural diverse place on earth. She was awarded an Obie for BRIDGE AND TUNNEL's premiere production at Culture Project.
SELL/BUY/DATE is presented for 12 performances only as part of New York Live Arts' annual Live Artery season. This dynamic multi-character, one-person play is inspired by stories of people, especially women and girls, who have been directly impacted by the sex trade.
This workshop production is presented by special arrangement with Manhattan Theatre Club. SELL/BUY/DATE is commissioned by The Novo Foundation and was developed in part at the 2015 Sundance Institute Theatre Lab at The Sundance Resort.
