The Bill T. Jones/ARNIE ZANE DANCE COMPANY will present "A Quarreling Pair," which had its New York premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's 2008 Next Wave Festival this past fall. Based on the Jane Bowles two-character play of the same name, the show is the result of Jones's 15-year fascination with the four-page puppet play. In his 90-minute long production, Jones takes this apparently simple story of two sisters with radically different views of the world as a point of departure for a multi-layered theatrical exploration of what happens to a relationship lived in isolation. A combination of choreography, text, film, and an original score, the work creates a tension between the uniquely creative means Jones employs to explore a play that warns of the emotional suffocation and spiritual inertia resulting from a life lived without imagination and curiosity.
Mr. Jones choreographed and performed worldwide as a soloist and duet company with his late partner, Arnie Zane before forming the Bill T. Jones/ARNIE ZANE DANCE COMPANY in 1982. Creating more than 100 works for his own company, Mr. Jones has also choreographed for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Boston Ballet, Lyon Opera Ballet, and Berlin Opera Ballet, among others.
Co-founder Bill T. Jones will also offer a special intimate lecture the night before this performance to share some of the stories behind his work. This FREE event takes place in the Booth Playhouse (located in Founders Hall, Bank of America Corporate Center) on Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are requested. Please call 704-348-5784 or email eiprograms@ncbpac.org to reserve your place.
