Big Apple Baroque presents a fully staged, magnificently crafted production of Henry Purcell's The Fairy Queen featuring Du!an T"nek Dance Theatre on June 14th, 16th and 17th at 7:30pm at The Kaye Playhouse, Hunter College. BAB's forthcoming production of this major opera is a testimony to the fact that New York has all the talent, imagination and energy to tackle a work usually only presented by foreign touring companies. Its adaptation is generating interest well beyond New York and in response it is hosting a one-day academic conference on June 15th to explore in greater detail the world into which The Fairy Queen was born. All ticket holders gain complimentary access to the academic conference. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.bigapplebaroque.org.

This is Big Apple Baroque's first commercial venture, although since its establishment in 2002 it has a track record of high quality performances of Baroque and Early Classical repertoire, fostering local Early Music talent in New York and giving back to the community by supporting projects to help the homeless in the city.

Musicians featured in its performances continue to win posts in major ensembles, teach and study in worldclass conservatory programs, and garner critical acclaim in many other musical capacities both in the US and abroad. In tackling The Fairy Queen it is seeking to draw significantly greater attention to its work and generate a larger donor base. Even more importantly, it is seeking to change how Purcell's masterpiece is perceived resulting in a historically richer rendering of this glorious opera.

BAB is accepting tax-deductible donations to support bringing Purcell's masterpiece to the New York stage. Further details at www.bigapplebaroque.org.
