On Monday, December 20, 2010, the Broadway company of the international musical smash CHICAGO is pleased to welcome back Bianca Marroquin to the starring role of merry murderess Roxie Hart, for a three-week limited holiday engagement through Sunday, January 9, 2011.
Latina television audiences will recognize Bianca Marroquin as one of the judges on Univision's hit new celebrity dance competition series "Mira Quien Baila" ("Look Who's Dancing"), which premiered this year.
Having a longstanding history with Roxie Hart, Marroquin first portrayed the role in the Mexico City production of CHICAGO in 2002. For that performance, she received five awards from the Mexican Critics Association, including New Revelation and Best Actress.
Following the critical and popular success of that production, she was then invited to crossover from Mexico City to New York City, and made her English-language debut as Roxie Hart on Broadway later that year.
For that acheivement, Marroquin holds the distinction of being the first -- and only -- Latina actress to crossover from Mexico to Broadway in a leading role.
Marroquin later took Roxie on the road, kicking off the third National Tour of CHICAGO and earning a 2004 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. She has also appeared on Broadway in The Pajama Game with Harry Connick Jr. and most recently as Daniela in the musical In the Heights. For this latest engagment in CHICAGO, Marroquin is joined by Leigh Zimmerman as Velma Kelly, Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn, Robert Creighton as Amos Hart and LaVon Fisher-Wilson as Matron "Mama" Morton.
Now celebrating 14 glorious years of girls, glitz and glamour on the Great White Way, the razzle-dazzle hit CHICAGO is the sixth longest-running production in Broadway history, as well as Broadway's longest-running musical revival...and it shows no sign of slowing down!
