Invisible City Theatre Company presents the New York premiere of Purple Hearts, an award-winning new play by Burgess Clark based on real events surrounding the attack on Pearl Harbor. Previews begin September 5; opening September 8 at the Gene Frankel Theatre.
Directed by Invisible City Artistic Director David Epstein, "Purple Hearts is based on real events surrounding the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the U.S.S. West Virginia on December 7, 1941. For as long as three weeks after the attack, sailors survived aboard the sunken battleship waiting to be rescued. At the bottom of the sea, trapped under impossible conditions, they struggle to keep hope – and themselves – alive," describe press notes.
A recipient of a Special Services Award from the US Army, Purple Hearts has also garnered a "Best of the Fest" Award from the Edinburgh Festival and was named "Best Play" by the National Association of Speech and Dramatic Arts.
The cast of Purple Hearts features Ryan Serhant, Dan Patrick Brady, Anneka Fagundes, Rebecca White, Cecilla Frontero and Kevin T. Collins. The design team for Purple Hearts is Elisha Schaefer (sets), Joe W. Novak (lighting), Jennifer Raskopf (costumes) and Peter Wood (sound).
Scheduled September 5 through September 22, Purple Hearts performs Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8PM at the Gene Frankel Theatre (24 Bond Street, between Lafayette Street and The Bowery in Manhattan). Tickets are $18 and can be reserved by calling 212-352-3101.
